Scientists use Axion BioSystems Omni imager to evaluate the efficacy of Willaertia lysate against the effects of photoaging.
Aging skin becomes increasingly thin and fragile over time, a process associated with a decrease in epidermal cell layers. To combat the signs of aging, scientists in this study evaluated the efficacy of a naturally occurring postbiotic derived from French Alps thermal spring waters, Willaertia lysate, through a multi-scale approach using cellular and advanced 3D skin models. Using the Scratch Assay Module for Axion BioSystems’ Omni live-cell imaging platform, the scientists demonstrated that Willaertia lysate promotes cell migration in both keratinocyte and fibroblast cell types. According to the authors, “This study is the first to report the use of a protozoan lysate as a natural and biosourced postbiotic active ingredient in the fields of cosmetics and dermocosmetics.”
