Swagata Ghatak and Stuart Lipton report Alzheimer's Disease (AD) neuronal cultures and organoids demonstrate increased spontaneous action potentials, slow oscillatory events, and hypersynchronous network activity. The NMDAR antagonist NitroSynapsin relieves the hyperactivity. This novel model of synaptic plasticity for disease modeling neural networks may be useful for screening drugs to treat hyperexcitability and related synaptic damage in AD using the Maestro MEA System.
