In this study, the authors aimed to develop a 3D-cell culture model as a tool to evaluate trophectoderm behavior and functionality in the process of human implantation. The Axion BioSystems Omni was used to monitor the generation of trophoblast cell line Swan71 (Sw71) spheroid models. Moreover, the Axion BioSystems Lux3 FL was used to study the spheroids' propensity for migration. It was found that Sw71 spheroids acted as a model of early human placenta, with resemblances to the hatched human blastocyst in morphology and functionality.
