Scientists use Axion BioSystems’ Maestro Pro MEA platform to evaluate functional activity in 3D cardiac organoids in vitro.
Complex three-dimensional (3D) human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived cardiac organoids are increasingly used in disease research and drug development applications. In this publication, the authors present a detailed protocol for using hands-free, noninvasive Maestro MEA and manual electrophysiology of cardiac organoids by measuring their extracellular field potentials (FP) and intracellular action potentials (AP). According to the authors, “this protocol deciphers the electrical behavior of 3D cardiac organoids at both the single-cell level and tissue level.”
